GM will renovate and retool the plant’s body shop and general assembly area beginning later this year, the car maker reportedly said.

The report said GM built more than 238,000 full-size sport utility vehicles at the plant last year. Currently, GM builds the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL and the Cadillac Escalade at the plant.

Reuters noted that Toyota will also soon be building pickup trucks in Texas – it is investing $800 million in a new truck plant in San Antonio, which is scheduled to start production in 2006.
