General Motors will announce early next year that it will produce the Pontiac Solstice, a two-seater that won design awards as a concept vehicle earlier this year, the Chicago tribune reported, citing GM officials.

The newspaper said GM also is expected to build a Buick and a Saturn model derived from the small sports car, part of vice chairman Bob Lutz’s efforts to add excitement to the company’s car lineup, which has been criticised as being too bland.


“It gives the company some personality, and that’s really what [Lutz] has been able to do. This certainly speaks to his legacy at GM,” Jeff Schuster, director of North America forecasting with J.D. Power and Associates, told the Chicago Tribune.
