The mid-sized sedan, a staple of rental and business fleets, is due for a complete revamp next year and TCC cites Gene Stefanyshyn, GM’s mid-size passenger car vehicle line executive, as saying that the new one will be aimed at traditional “three-box sedan” buyers but the Fairfax, Kansas, plant also will be equipped to build an “extended version”.

TCC said the stretched version will have an extra six inches in its wheelbase and will be aimed at more affluent buyers, but could not get Stefanyshyn to comment on rumours it would be a station wagon.
“It’s not a crossover,” and GM isn’t calling it a station wagon either, was Stefanyshyn’s respose to TCC’s probe.

He added that GM will concentrate all W-car (Century, Regal, Grand Prix, Impala and Monte Carlo) assembly at Oshawa, Ontario, TCC said.
