Citing Ford Motor Co. officials, the Wall Street Journal today reported that the car maker will build more vehicles in North America during the first quarter than previously planned, to replace stocks depleted by recent sales incentives such as zero-percent financing.

But the Ford officials told the WSJ that they remain concerned about the economic outlook.


The WSJ said that Ford, expected to announce its first-quarter production forecast next week, built about 1.1 million vehicles in North America in the first quarter of 2001.


The Ford officials did not give the WSJ specific numbers but indicated first-quarter 2002 production will be higher than they had forecast in the weeks immediately following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
