Denso has announced a significant expansion of its manufacturing facilities in Maryville, the largest single expansion in the 15-year history of the site.

The new facility, attracting a capital investment of about US$185 million, will produce automotive electronic components and is expected to provide around 500 new jobs by 2010, and to add approximately 220,000 square feet to the company’s existing 1.5 million square feet of manufacturing space. Recruitment will not begin until late 2007.
“Car makers continue to increase the electronic parts content in their products, which has led to higher sales for [us],” said Denso Manufacturing Tennessee president Mack Hattori said. “As a result, we needed more manufacturing capacity to satisfy customer demand.”
Construction of the new facility is scheduled to begin in early 2007 with building completion targeted for the end of 2007. Production is expected to start in spring 2008.
Denso Manufacturing Tennessee was established in 1988 and manufactures starters, alternators, instrument clusters and electronics for the automotive industry. It currently employs approximately 2,500 people.
