Retail sales for DaimlerChrysler business units in the United States totaled 219,493 in October, down nine percent compared with sales of 239,998 units for October 1999. The Chrysler Group posted sales of 192,019, an eight percent drop. Calendar year sales remained even compared with the same period in 1999.

Spurred by a 44 percent sales increase of its ML sport utility, Mercedes- Benz USA reported sales of 18,381 units, a three percent increase over the same period 1999. Freightliner Corporation reported sales of 9,093 units for its Freightliner and Sterling brands, down 28 percent compared with October 1999 sales.
