Auto giant DaimlerChrysler AG said Friday (27/10/00) that it is to recall a total of 1.4 million minivans built between the years 1996-2000, reports Associated Press (30/10/00).
The recall has been called to fix problems with a fuel rail seal that could leak – although a replacement part will not be available until March, according to the article.

The announcement – which does not involve the ‘flexible-fuel’ vehicles nor those built after September 1999 – covers both the Grand and Dodge Caravan, the Plymouth Voyager alongside the Grand Voyager, and the Chrysler Town & Country minivans with 3.3- and 3.8-litre V-6 engines.
Citing DaimlerChrysler spokesman David Wilkins, Associated Press says that DaimlerChrysler had received 43 reports of leaking fuel rail seals with two reports of minor injuries resulting from fires near the engine. The news agency says that there have been no reports of wrecks.
The recall affects 1.16 million vehicles in the US, with 182,000 vehicles affected in Canada, 2,000 in Mexico and 78,000 in other parts of the world.
Customers will be notified as to when the parts will become available, says the company.
