The state of Georgia will have to wait a bit longer to find out whether DaimlerChrysler will build a new factory there, according to The Car Connection (TCC) website.

TCC said that DC on Wednesday postponed a decision that would have led to the construction of a new assembly plant 12 miles from the port city of Savannah.
DC plans to assemble Mercedes-Benz-designed Sprinter cargo vans [already marketed under the Freightliner brand in the US] at the proposed $US750 million plant if it ever gains approval, TCC added.
The website cited a local report saying that DC needed more time to make a decision, which could create 3300 jobs in the southern state.
The Car Connection noted that Georgia has largely lost out in the bidding wars for ‘transplant’ [foreign brand] car makers – Nissan and Saturn are in Tennessee and Mississippi; Hyundai, Honda and Mercedes-Benz in Alabama; and BMW in South Carolina – but added that both Ford and GM operate plants in the Atlanta area, while Ford is negotiating to build a replacement factory with supplier parks outside the Atlanta suburbs.
