Consumer Guide test drives more than 200 new vehicles annually and divides the automotive market into 17 classes based on vehicle type, size, and price.

From these, it has selected 37 models as 2005 Best Buys.

These include the Honda Civic, with a base price of $US13,160, to the Audi A8, which starts at $66,590, and range through “standouts” such as the Mazda 3, Toyota Camry, Chrysler 300, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac SRX, Ford F-150 and Honda Odyssey.

Vehicles that also represent outstanding values – but fall just short of Best Buy status – receive a Recommended award; the 2005 list contains 45 vehicles including the Hyundai Elantra, Chevrolet Malibu, BMW 3-Series, Jeep Liberty, Volvo XC90 and Nissan Titan.
