Chrysler will recall 1,115,322 Jeeps comprising 2000-2002 Wranglers, 2000-2001 Cherokees and 1999-2002 Grand Cherokees with four-litre petrol engines to reduce the possibility of debris accumulation in the engine compartment that could potentially cause a fire.

There have been no accidents or injuries related to this issue, the company said in a statement.


Chrysler said it had found that a design change made to the engine manifolds modified the under-bonnet airflow, which “in rare cases could lead to debris accumulation in the engine compartment”.


Dealers will install a shield in the manifold area to prevent this from occurring.


The recall affects 182,044 Wranglers, 293,968 Cherokees and 639,310 Grand Cherokees.
