Ford, General Motors and Chrysler have all recently tweaked their rebates, no-interest loans and other incentives over the past few weeks to boost year-end sales.


The newspaper also said that in another new program, General Motors is allowing customers to defer monthly payments for 90 days when they finance 2003 or 2004 model cars through GMAC, GM’s money-lending arm.


Ford on Tuesday said it was reviving a $US5-a-day lease offer on base versions of its Ford Mustang coupe. Ford offered the same deal earlier this year on its Mustang and Ford Ranger pickup as a tie-in with its centennial, recalling company founder Henry Ford’s decision to raise his factory workers’ wages to $5 a day.
