Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated 359,136 units, down from the 363,732 cars and trucks built the previous week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.

Including last  week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 13,007,826 vehicles, up 6.5% from like-2001’s pace.


In the US, automakers were expected to produce 264,876 vehicles last week, down 3.0% from the 272,947 cars and trucks built the previous week.  To date, calendar 2002 US vehicle output totals an estimated 9,527,945 units, up 8.2% from the 8,807,499 vehicles built in like-2001.


Last  week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 55,222, a 0.3% decrease from the 55,409 units assembled last week.  Estimated calendar-2002 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,069,939 units, up 4.2% compared to the 1,986,369 vehicles produced in like-2001.


Of the cars and trucks slated for production last  week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 34.1%; Ford Motor Co., 27.2%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 15.0%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.4%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.1%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.5%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.9%; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.0%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.6%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.0%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7%; BMW of North America Inc., 0.9%; and other manufacturers, 1.6%.
