“We’re assessing where the best place for our headquarters would be,” BorgWarner spokeswoman Beth Feikens told Reuters, though she gave no timetable for a possible move.

Reuters said that BorgWarner, with about 14,000 employees in 50 locations worldwide, has 70 employees in Chicago, including corporate officers, accounting, legal and other staff. New chairman and chief executive Timothy Manganello lives in Detroit and commutes to his primary office in Chicago, the report added.

According to Reuters, BorgWarner a year ago consolidated its Detroit-area offices into a technical centre in suburban Auburn Hills, Michigan, where 450 employees work in research and development, engineering and sales and include the heads of three of the company’s five divisions.
