BorgWarner has announced that it supplies the engine chain timing system and the solenoid exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve to the DaimlerChrysler 5.7-liter HEMI engine.

“The BorgWarner Engine Group is pleased to contribute benefits including lower noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), enhanced performance, lower emissions and increased fuel economy to DaimlerChrysler and the people who drive HEMI-equipped vehicles,” said Tim Manganello, BorgWarner Chairman and CEO. “HEMI is a legendary name in engines, and as a global powertrain product leader, we’re proud to play a part in its resurgence.”

Production of the 5.7-liter HEMI began in 2002 at the DaimlerChrysler engine plant in Saltillo, Mexico. The HEMI name refers to the top of the engine’s combustion chamber, which is shaped like a hemisphere. The engine is expected to power additional vehicles, including a 2005 Dodge Magnum SRT-8 and the 2006 Dodge Charger.
