BMW Manufacturing Co. in Spartanburg has produced its 500,000th X5, just five and a half years after its market introduction.


The milestone vehicle is an X5 3.0d and outfitted with the Individual Maritime package, which will be shipped to a customer in Hamburg, Germany.


The first X5 rolled off the production lines at Spartanburg on September 1, 1999. Less than two years later, the 100,000th milestone was reached on August 23, 2001.


The X5 is produced exclusively in the US for distribution to more than 120 markets. BMW is the largest exporter of US-made automobiles, exporting 60% of its production.
