“This is a way we can make necessary reductions in operating costs while minimising layoffs,” Visteon spokesman Jim Fisher told the Detroit Free Press.

The changes will affect 2,000 workers at the parts maker’s headquarters in Van Buren Township and 50 at a testing centre in Plymouth [all in Michigan], the paper said.

Last October, the supplier said it expected to eliminate 800 salaried jobs globally by the end of March.

The employees will be able to choose which days of the week they will work and the change will be evaluated at the end of the month, Fisher told the paper.

“We need to act very quickly, and we’re committed to keeping our costs aligned during these challenging times,” he said.
