Goodyear’s United Steelworkers (USW) union says its members have ratified a new, four-year collective bargaining agreement covering around 8,500 workers at six of the company’s US facilities.
Steelworkers at plants in Buffalo, Topeka, Fayetteville, Danville, Gadsden and Akron, passed the contract by a 3-1 margin.

“The contract protects our plants against closure throughout its term,” said USW international vice president, Tom Conway, who chairs the union’s Goodyear negotiations.
“We also negotiated a commitment from Goodyear to invest in our North American facilities so future generations can look forward to continuing the tradition of manufacturing in these communities.”
Conway added Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) coverage has been expanded to all USW-represented Goodyear employees, with the contract providing more flexibility for steelworkers to move between jobs within plants.
The USW represents around 850,000 workers in the US, Canada and the Caribbean in a wide variety of industries, ranging from glass-making to the mining, steel, oil, paper, tyre and rubber sectors.
