The union wants to discuss further buyouts and other cost-cutting measures, reported the newspaper, quoting Bob King, a UAW vice president who heads the union’s dealings with Ford.

He reportedly said: “We understand the crisis at Ford. We have to be far more aggressive in finding a solution.” King added that the union could support an alliance with a foreign car maker to help Ford restructure, after the manufacturer more than doubled its second-quarter loss to US$254m.

The UAW was not immediately available for comment.
