Toyota has said it will recall almost 1.37m more vehicles in the United States due to potentially defective Takata airbags.

The expansion pushes the total number of Toyota vehicles recalled in the US because of dangers posed by Takata airbags to more than 2.9m.

Earlier this week, Honda announced the recall of 1.39m Accord and Civic cars in the US due to potentially defective front passenger-side Takata airbags. Those cars had previously been recalled for front driver-side airbags.

Last month Takata’s epic airbag recall widened to 33.8m vehicles in the US, making it the largest US recall ever.
