Those are Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, according to the New York Times. The plant would be Toyota’s eighth in the US and 15th in North America.

The New York Times notes that the news is good for Virginia, where a Ford plant is due to close in Norfolk next year.

In Virginia Toyota is considering a site outside Roanoke. In Tennessee the site is near Chattanooga, while in North Carolina the site is in Greensboro. Toyota is also considering north east Arkansas where officials have been trying to win an assembly plant for many years, according to the New York Times.

The newspaper said Toyota may still yet decide to expand the truck plant it is currently building in San Antonio, Texas, rather than build an all-new plant.

Toyota is also looking at sites for a new engine plant. Michigan is reported to be one place under consideration, along with Indiana and Kentucky.
