Toyota has announced that it has completed the consolidation of its North American engineering and manufacturing operations.

The new company, which was announced in December 2004, is called Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, and was officially launched today.


The management includes the followings:


– Atsushi Niimi, chairman and CEO of TEMA who will also remain senior managing director of Toyota Motor Corporation at Toyota’s global headquarters.


– Seiichi Sudo, president and COO of TEMA, headin TEMA’s planning and operations centres.


– Yasuhiko Ichihashi, executive vice president of TEMA and remaining president of Toyota Technical Centre.


– Gary Convis, executive vice President of TEMA.  Convis will also continue as president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky.


– Ray Tanguay, executive vice president of TEMA.  Tanguay will continue as president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada.


“TEMA was formed for two key reasons,” said Sudo. “The company will streamline North American R&D and manufacturing, allowing for better communication between these functions and, ultimately, a faster and more efficient vehicle development process. Additionally, TEMA will strengthen the design and operational capabilities of our team members.”


TEMA will operate with three centres:


– The Toyota Technical Centre will continue to direct R&D activities;


– The Toyota Operations Centre will lead manufacturing support activities including production engineering, production control, and purchasing; and


– The Toyota Planning Centre will perform administrative functions such as personnel, accounting and finance and information systems.


The workforce of the combined organisations, including manufacturing operations, will be approximately 28,000.
