Tesla’s CEO and founder Elon Musk has apparently stepped up efforts to begin development of a highly autonomous vehicle.
Musk used his twitter account earlier this week to invite engineers to apply to work on the project. He tweeted that there is an “intense effort underway at Tesla to develop a practical autopilot system for Model S.” He invited engineers interested in working on autonomous driving to apply for positions at Tesla that would report directly to him.

“Engineers interested in working on autonomous driving, pls email autopilot@teslamotors.com. Team will report directly to me.”
In an interview with the Financial Times Musk suggested that Tesla’s “autopilot” system would allow its cars to drive themselves in most situations. “We should be able to do 90 percent of miles driven within three years,” Musk said. “It’s incredibly hard to get that last few percent,” he added.
