A Honda spokesman told Reuters that the defect in the pump, manufactured by Japan’s Mitsuba, could cause the engine to stop and fail to restart. No accidents have been reported stemming from the defect.

The same defect affected about 30,000 of the 528,400 vehicles Honda said it would recall in China last week, the spokesman told the news agency. A recall filing for vehicles using the same component would also shortly be made in Japan, he told Reuters, adding that the cost of the recall was still unknown.

Affected models are 2005 model year Accord, Accord hybrid, Odyssey, Acura TL, Acura RL, and Acura TSX vehicles and some 2006 Ridgeline pickup trucks.

Separately, Asia Pulse said Honda South Korea was recalling 4,261 Accord sedans for free repair due to oil leaks in the steering system and a power cut in the fuel pump that could force the engine to stop.
