EMG acquired control of Key in April 2003 after the company (then named Breed Technologies) had emerged from bankruptcy. EMG said that, under its ownership, Key improved its financial performance, its global scope, and its reputation among customers.
During this time, Key Safety Systems introduced many new products, consolidated its manufacturing opeartions, established factories in new markets such as Romania and China, and opened a technical centre in China.
