Nissan Motor president Carlos Ghosn has said the automaker would keep its domestic production levels despite the yen’s appreciation.
In order to cope with the strong yen, Nissan is “optimizing and increasing” its production capacities abroad and “not reducing production in Japan,” because the company is growing, Ghosn said after a speech in New York.

But he also said production in Japan is “less and less important” in relative numbers, as “all the growth is taking place outside Japan.” “This is the direct effect of the strong yen,” he pointed out, according to Jijii Press.
In the speech, Ghosn said that in Europe and Japan, whose economies are slowing, “we will continue operating in a crisis mode.”
Asked about the possibility of partner Renault seeking another partner, Ghosn said existing alliances with Nissan and Daimler are “enough.”
