The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is probing whether Nissan’s March 2014 recall of 989,701 vehicles over an airbag issue was effective or not.
The company had recalled 2014 Infiniti Q50 and QX60, 2013 Infiniti JX35, 2013 Nissan NV200 and 2013-2014 Altima, Leaf, Pathfinder, and Sentra vehicles as the occupant classification system software was wrongly deciding the passenger seat was empty even when occupied by an adult.

The agency has received 124 complaints, since the recall, citing problems with the system even after recall repairs and OCS related repairs (in some cases) were made by dealers, the Detroit News reported.
NHTSA said: “The majority of the complaints allege the passenger air bag status light stays on (indicating the passenger air bag is turned off) for adult front passengers. Some of the complaints state the dealers have made multiple repairs but the problem still persists.”
The investigation will help the agency determine if Nissan needs to announce a new recall.
