Mazda’s US unit is recalling 18,592 2014 model year 6 vehicles produced between 25 October 2012 to 9 May 2013 to modify the fuel system.

It is possible to refuel these cars beyond fuel tank capacity and, if over-fuelling is followed by a large temperature change, the fuel volume may expand and enter the charcoal canister. The malfunction indicator light may illuminate and, if the fuel overflow exceeds the canister capacity, leakage could occur.

Dealers will install an adapter in the fuel tank to reduce the possibility of overfilling during refuelling. The canister will be inspected and replaced if necessary. An addendum containing a caution about overfilling the fuel tank will be sent to affected customers to be attached to their owner’s manual.

No incidents of fire or injuries have been reported, the automaker said.
