Production ended at Ford’s Wixom assembly plant on Thursday with the completion of a white Lincoln Town Car.

The vehicle will be shipped to a dealership in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Wixom opened in 1957 as the Lincoln Assembly Plant and produced 6.6m vehicles in its 50 years of operation.

Production of the Town Car – basis for many stretched limousines in the US – will be moved to the Saint Thomas Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, and will commence in the fourth quarter there.

About 1,100 employees were on hand to see the final car off the line.
