Honda will recall 871,000 cars in the US and export markets because they could roll away even after removal of the ignition key. The recall affects 807,000 cars in the US and 64,000 elsewhere, mostly Canada and Mexico.
The recall affects 318,000 2003 -2004 Odyssey minivans and 259,000 2003-2004 Pilot SUVs plus 230,000 2003-2006 Acura MDX models.

According to Honda, keys cannot normally be taken out without shifting the brake lever to the parking position, but damage or abrasion of the locking device may make it possible for them to be removed without shifting the lever. Two minor accidents have occurred so far in the United States, it said.
“If the transmission is not in park and the parking brake is not set, the vehicle could roll away and a crash could occur,” Honda said in a statement. American Honda will start sending out recall notices in February 2013.
The NHTSA had opened a probe into the Odyssey and Pilot last October after receiving 43 consumer complaints associated with the ignition key.
