As part of a global recall of almost a half million vehicles, Honda’s US unit is recalling 268,655 2002-2006 CR-V SUVs manufactured from 19 February 2002, to 28 July 2006. The driver side power window switch may fail or melt.
If the switch fails, it could overheat, smoke, and cause a fire. A switch failure, and a fire, could occur even if the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the recall repair has been performed.

Honda dealers will inspect and repair the switches, if necessary, free of charge.
In the UK, Honda is contacting 77,000 people who bought CR-Vs made at its Swindon, Wiltshire plant [source of most European models] between 2002 and 2006. The global recall involves almost 500,000 vehicles.
The Daily Telegraph said the recall came after five drivers – one in Britain and four in the US – said they could smell burning. The fault has been identified as a faulty seal on the switch, which means that water or liquids could seep into the master switch, controlling all the windows.
Two years ago Honda was forced to recall more than 171,000 Jazz [Fit] models when a similar fault was identified after one of the cars burst into flames, killing a child, the paper noted.
