Honda will recall over 2.3m vehicles in the US, China and Canada due to a problem with automatic transmissions in Accord, CR-V and other models.
The car maker will voluntarily recall about 1.5m vehicles to update automatic transmission control software in the US and around 760,515 vehicles in China, Dow Jones reported, noting that the number of vehicles to be recalled in the world’s two biggest car markets is equal to 63% of the 3.56m vehicles the automaker sold worldwide last year.

About 135,142 vehicles will also be recalled in Canada for the same software update.
Honda said the recall was prompted by concerns that the transmission secondary shaft bearing in the affected vehicles can be damaged if the transmission is quickly shifted between reverse, neutral and drive, as may be done in an attempt to dislodge a vehicle stuck in mud or snow.
In the US, some 2005 to 2010 four cylinder Accord models, 2007-2010 CR-Vs and 2005-2008 Element vehicles are included in the recall.
No injuries or deaths have been reported in the US related to this transmission problem, Honda said.

By GlobalDataHonda also said, separately, that Guangqi Honda Automobile, its 50-50 venture in China with Guangzhou Automobile Group, will recall 605,025 Accord sedans manufactured between July 2004 and October 2009, as well as 151,489 Odyssey vehicles made between July 2004 and September 2009.
Dongfeng Honda Automobile, another Honda joint venture in China with Dongfeng Motor Group, will also recall 4,001 Spirior cars manufactured between August 2009 and November 2009.
No accidents have been reported in China, Honda told Dow Jones.
