GM has asked a bankruptcy court for a seat on the creditors committee of Delphi, according to Reuters.

The committee has the power to negotiate a plan to reorganise the company and has access to confidential financial data.
GM is Delphi’s largest unsecured creditor and owes GM US$1.23bn between now and 2014 to pay benefits to former Delphi workers who go back to GM. A payment of US$64m is due in June and a bankruptcy court hearing is scheduled for 9 March.
GM is currently in talks with Delphi and the UAW unions over employment contracts. The components maker last week set a deadline of 30 March for an agreement to be reached, other wise it will cancel contracts and risk strike action.
