To comply with the strict environmental regulations, many automotive makers are downsizing engines to improve fuel economy and lower emissions. GM has announced a new family of small Ecotec engines that will feature technologies such as petrol direct injection, turbocharging and multi-fuel capacity to boost economy and performance.

However, the new engines will be smaller than the original Ecotec engines. The new engines will range from one-litre to 1.5-litres.
