General Motors has confirmed it will honour warranty obligations with American and Canadian dealers if bankrupt Saab is unable to do so.

The US manufacturer, which yesterday, strongly defended its role in the events leading up to Saab’s bankruptcy filing, made its announcement following speculation as to the future of global warranties for the Swedish brand.

“In the event Saab cannot or will not fulfil its obligations to administer the warranty programmes with its US and Canadian dealers through Saab Cars North America or otherwise, General Motors will take necessary steps to ensure remaining warranty obligations on Saab vehicles marketed by GM in the US and Canada will be honoured,” said a GM statement.
