In a statement issued late on Tuesday (1 December), General Motors’ Board of Directors has said that it has received ‘expressions of interest in Saab’ and will evaluate potential bids between now and the end of December.

At that time, GM said it will ‘determine whether a suitable arrangement for Saab exists.  If not, we will then begin an orderly wind down of the global Saab business.’


BAIC – also involved in Koenigsegg’s recently withdrawn bid to buy Saab from GM – is widely tipped to have expressed interest again, though doubts persist over whether it can put together a credible bid in time and satisfy concerns at GM over technology transfer and rights.


The Swedish government has said that it could make loan guarantees available again to a prospective new owner, though it has ruled out taking a stake.
