Various General Motors pickup trucks and SUVs are likely to remain in production longer without major changes.

According to Reuters, GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson told the Wall Street Journal the automaker was “looking at the whole product portfolio”, and deciding how to supply the US market with more fuel-efficient cars.

That would mean extending the model lives of trucks and SUVs not expected to be redesigned until at least 2012 in any case.

GM has also considered cancelling one future Hummer SUV product and shutting down another brand, according to the reports.

GM earlier said Hummer was up for strategic review and confirmed earlier this week it was talking with other automakers over outright sale or some sort of cooperation.
