General Motors is to hire about 100 UAW workers currently laid off for its Warren Transmission gear plant.
The workers will be drawn from the UAW-GM area hire as part of the union-automaker national agreement and will join a second shift at the plant making six speed transmissions.

“Increased market demand for our great vehicles is driving expansion of our production operations,” said plant manager Dave Tatman.
“Additional jobs will allow us to grow the business, while meeting increasing customer demand for our products.”
Warren Transmission produces four-and six-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmissions for nine GM models.
The plant employs approximately 660 hourly and 120 salaried employees.
