The number of fatality-related claims approved by a compensation fund GM set up in the wake of its ignition switch recall programme has now reached 27 – more than double the number the automaker has acknowledged (13).
Of the 52 claims approved to date, another four were in Category One (physical injuries resulting in quadriplegia, paraplegia, double amputation, permanent brain damage or pervasive burns) and 21 in Category Two (physical injuries requiring hospitalisation (or outpatient medical treatment) within 48 hours of the accident).

The fund, administered by lawyer Kenneth Feinberg, has so far received 1,371 claims and judged 52 eligible for compensation.
At least 151 other fatality claims are under review, according to a Bloomberg News report this week.
