General Motors has named Stephen Girsky vice chairman, corporate strategy and business development. Girsky, 47, will remain on the GM board to which he was appointed last July.
He will have overall responsibility for corporate strategy, business alliances, new business development, and other related areas. The appointment is effective from 1 March.

GM vice president of corporate planning and alliances, John Smith, said he would retire after more than 40 years at the automaker. Smith, 59, will remain with GM until the end of the year and serve as a special advisor to new vice chairman and CFO Chris Liddell who moved recently to the company from Microsoft.
