General Motors has shaken up its government relations and public policy team with a raft of new advisory appointments to top management.

John Montford will become senior advisor to GM chairman and CEO Edward Whitacre with the support of vice president government relations, Robert Ferguson and VP environment, energy and safety policy, Michael Robinson. Current vice president government relations and public policy Ken Cole, is to retire later this year having joined GM in 2001.
The appointments of Montford and Ferguson were effective from 1 January, with the former having overall responsibility for government relations and global public policy.
“John and Bob are proven professionals who have worked in an environment of intense regulatory and political complexity,” said Whitacre.
Montford was former senior vice president, state legislative affairs for AT&T.
