Ford has named William Kennard, a former chairman of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), to its board of directors from 1 January, 2015.

Long-serving member Homer Neal will leave on 31 December, after 18 years.

“Bill has a wealth of experience, particularly in telecommunications, where he has spent years shaping policy and pioneering initiatives to improve the benefits of technology for consumers worldwide, said Ford executive chairman Bill Ford.

“As we accelerate our work in the areas of in-car connectivity and mobility, his unique perspective will help guide our strategy and Blueprint for Mobility forward.”

Kennard is also a former US ambassador to the European Union and currently is chairman and co-founder of Velocitas Partners, an asset management firm, and a member of the operating executive board of Staple Street Capital, a private equity firm. He is also on the boards of AT&T, MetLife and Duke Energy Corporation.

Kennard will serve on the Ford nominating and governance committee.

His career spans more than three decades in law, telecommunications and private equity.
