Because of the programme, “the insurance costs and repair costs to consumers will be competitive with the current trucks,” Ford spokesman Mike Levine told the buyers guide website.

The 2015 F-150 also features a modular design, which means that some parts can be easily replaced in the event of an accident.

Levine told Edmunds: “What this means for car buyers is that in the event of an accident with the (2015) F-150, we’ve made it so it’s designed for easy repair. It’s easier to repair due to the modular body panels on some parts of the truck. This could save hours of labour time versus the previous truck.”

Levine also said the automaker was committed to helping Ford and Lincoln dealers with the costs to upgrade their service bays and train technicians to work on the redesigned F-150. The automaker is providing a full rebate on costs for technical training classes for one technician at participating dealerships.
