Ford plans to cut make further cuts to pickup and SUV production in the US as the credit crunch bites.
The Michigan Truck plant in Wayne will shut for five weeks in June, while the Kentucky Truck plant in Louisville will be shut for four weeks in July, according to the Associated Press.
The Wayne plant produces the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator, sales of which have all-but collapsed this year.
The Louisville plant makes F-series trucks. Ford would not confirm the closure, but said that there will be shift layoffs during May.
Ford told Associated Press that it is working on a smaller more fuel-efficient version of the F-150 pick-up as a response to high fuel prices, but this will reportedly not be available until 2011.
