The government offers an individual tax break rebate of US$7,500 and some state and local governments have also offered incentives, Reuters noted.
“If we don’t have these stimulus funds, it’s going to take some time for electric,” Penske, chairman of the second largest US auto dealer network, Penske Group, told an industry conference in Detroit.
His company is also the exclusive US distributor of Daimler’s Smart line and Penske said the brand would introduce an electric model there next year.
