The US Environmental Protection Agency has proposed a revision to US mobile source air toxic rules, that would require refiners to make petrol with an average benzene content of 0.62%, down from 0.97%.

The rule would come into force from 2011 and cut benzene emissions from passenger vehicles by nearly 50% by 2030, according to Reuters.
