Chrysler’s Dodge brand has confirmed more details of its redesigned 2011 Durango three-row SUV ahead of a promotional event in Virginia this coming Labour Day weekend.

The new model will share its platform and engines with the recently redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee and will be built in the same Jefferson North plant in Detroit. It was last made at the end of 2008 when Chrysler closed its Newark, Delaware factory.
The unibody vehicle will have a standard 3.6-litre ‘Pentastar’ petrol V6 engine or optional 5.7-litre ‘Hemi’ V8 engine with fuel-saving, multi-displacement system (MDS) four-cylinder mode. Both engines feature variable-valve timing (VVT) and are available with all-wheel drive. Towing capability with standard trailer sway control (is 7,400lbs for the V8 and class-leading 6,200lbs for the V6.
Dodge claims a much improved interior – there are no official photos yet – and 22 different seating configurations. Electronic stability control is standard and other available safety and security technologies include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross path detection, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control and keyless enter/start.
Sales start in the fourth quarter.
