Denso said it would spend $151m and add 442 new jobs at two of its Michigan facilities located in Southfield and Battle Creek in 2013-2015.

At its North American headquarters in Southfield the supplier is spending $45m and hiring 176 to expand research and development on fuel economy and safety. It will spend another $105m and add 266 jobs at its factory in Battle Creek to produce thermal components.

The Southfield project includes laboratory and testing facilities for electric hybrid vehicle parts, petrol direct injection systems, high output alternators, more efficient air conditioning systems plus infotainment and connectivity products. The new jobs will be engineering, sales, professional and technical.

Battle Creek thermal management production expansion will include new lines for radiator and condenser products. The new jobs are for 46 professional and skilled trade positions and 220 manufacturing positions.

Denso said recently it would spend nearly $1bn in North America over the next four years, which will result in more than 2,000 jobs across the region.

Some $750m will be spent in the US.
