Chrysler has halted production of its Sebring and Dodge Avenger cars for four weeks as consumer demand continues to fall.

Production at the Sterling Heights Assembly plant in Michigan was halted on Monday until 27 April with about 1,250 hourly workers now temporarily laid off, Chrysler spokesman Max Gates told Dow Jones. “This is part of our ongoing review to match production to market place demand,” Gates said.
Automakers begin announcing new vehicle US sales for March later on Wednesday.
Sebring sedan sales fell 89.5% in February to 927 vehicles while the Dodge Avenger dropped 76.8% to 1,931 units. The Sebring convertible dropped 76.4% to 521.
Chrysler has also idled its Belvidere Jeep assembly plant in Illinois for one week.
