Chevrolet said its 2016 Volt plug-in hybrid vehicle will be available only in a few US states from autumn. The vehicle will be available in Michigan and other states as a 2017 model from next spring. Earlier, the company had announced wider availability.

Michael Albano, Chevrolet spokesman, said: “Chevrolet has a shortened model year for the 2016 Chevy Volt that will have a limited distribution network. The 2016 Volt will be sold in our strongest EREV (extended-range electric vehicle) markets. The 2017 Chevrolet Volt will begin production early this spring and will be available throughout the country.”

The 2017 model is expected to feature a more powerful onboard charging system, AutoPacific product analysis manager Dave Sullivan said.

According to the ordering guide the 2016 Volt will be available in 11 US states – Vermont, Rhode Island, Oregon, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut and California, The Detroit News said.

The plug-in hybrid vehicle will be priced from US$33,395.
