Apple is reportedly accelerating its efforts to build an electric car. The Wall Street Journal said that the project has now been designated within Apple as a ‘committed project’ with a target shipping date of 2019.
The WSJ report cited anonymous sources familiar with the Apple car project, which has been through over a year of feasibility evaluations. Leaders of the project, code-named Titan , have been given permission to triple the 600-person team, the journal said.
The report also said that Apple has hired experts in driverless cars, although the first vehicle will not be fully autonomous.
Reports last month suggested that Apple is moving along with plans to build a car and is looking for a secure place to test it.
